Task 7- feedback of proposal pitch

I presented my proposal for my music magazine and collected feedback of what people thought about my ideas for the magazine. One person commented that they liked my title and thought it was unique. This was one comment I really liked as one of my personal aims was to think of a title that no one had made up before. I wanted it to be unique and to achieve that aim was a relief. Another person commented how they thought my target audience was a bit young because young children dont normally buy music magazines. I disagreed to this as I belive music magazines were something child could bring into their childhood as for mr personally I use to cut out pictures of my favourite singers and put it on my wall. One person commented on this and liked that I was trying to bring back this trend.

Music Magazine Proposal.

Title: Tones.

Genre: the genre of my music magazine will be R&B. This is because I strongly believe that this genre is popular and always has exciting things to talk about. For example, ‘Partynextdoor’ an R&B artist has been spoken about a lot in the press with reality star ‘Kylie Jenner’, and because a lot of people know about it but don’t really know the truth, this magazine would reveal the truth with active interviews with the artist.

Content: The magazine will include artist like Partynextdoor, Jhene Aiko, The Weeknd, Miguel, Rihanna etc. These artist are very popular and these sort of artist would attract people to the magazine. Regular items that would be in my magazine would be social media links and contact information. My magazine is different from other magazines because it will include exclusive pictures of artists and a range of different R&B artists from not only in the UK but in the USA. Artist from the USA are popular here as well as in USA.

Design Features: My magazine will include the following features:

·        Skyline

·        A Puff

·        Simple 3 colour scheme (need to think about)

·        DPS contents including images

Task5 (b): Distribution of magazines XXL

Does XXL have subscriptions?
They use to have an online subsciption but this is  no longer available as the actual magazine has been discontinued. From time to time the magazine will be distributed due to special regards and to access you pay a small fee.

Do they have Ezines?
They do but you would have to pay a subscription fee.

Who is the publisher?
The magazine is amercian based therefore the publishers are 'Townsquare Media' based in north America.

Do they have any apps?
They have created one app called 'XXL mag'

Sale or return?
Due to the magazine being discontined with a rare copy being published I couldnt gather this information.

Do they give away free stuff/ direct distribution?
Yes, they do as far as im aware.

Do they have any electronic brand extentions?
Yes, they do. They have a XXL website and a twitter page where people can follow them and get updates.

Task 5 (a): Magazine newsstand task.

I went to a newsagent close by to me to look at music magazines. I noticed that there was a small number of music magazines on sell. This made me think that the trend of buying music magazines is in decline and is seen as an old fashioned thing to do in modern day.  In this picture I took of the music magazines they all share two things in common. One being that they dont follow a simple 3 colour scheme instead they magazines has a numberous amount of colours. The second thing is that the mastheads are a basic colour either being black or white. This is something I didnt expect as I thought the colour black or white wasnt as attracting. This made me question whether this was one of many reasons why music magazines are in decline as there not appearing to look attractive.

Task 4: Evaulation of college magazine.

I enjoyed making a front cover and contents page for my college magazine. I enjoyed applying all the techniques that I knew to make it look good. For example I used a masthead, skyline, a puff, cover lines on the front page. To improve my college magazines front cover I would change the images background to a plain white background to attract the attention more to the indiviual on the front rather than the back and to also make it look more neat and clean. To improve the contents page, I would change it to a double page spread format and have one side with an image and the other side with the information. This is because I think it would be more appealing and interesting to the audience. I would also improve the colour of the contents, by making the colour the same as the front page colour.

This is my practise magazine cover. I have learnt how to use photoshop as i've never used it before. this is not finished but when i do finish it i will be adding a puff, more cover lines, a sky line and better image.
